Cheryl Hyder is the principal at Hyder Consulting Group, a consultancy focused on providing business valuation, forensic accounting and related services in litigious and non-litigious settings. She has developed and assisted in the implementation of fraud prevention programs for a major Federal agency as well as for publicly- and privately-owned companies. She is a frequent speaker on topics related to forensic accounting, fraud examination, business valuation and professional ethics for CPAs and CFEs.
Ms. Hyder was voted one of the top business valuation and forensic professionals in Virginia by her peers in 2013. She received the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners' (ACFE) Hubbard award, also voted by her peers in 2011, as well as a special commendation from the ACFE for her overall efforts in fraud prevention and detection.
Ms. Hyder has held volunteer leadership roles in national, regional, and local professional organizations throughout much of her career. Her peers nominated and voted her onto the Ethics Oversight Board in 2020 (3 year term) for National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA) an organization of forensic and valuation experts, which previously appointed her to serve a 3-year term on its Litigation Forensics Board and she later chaired during the 2013/2014 term.
Ms. Hyder is a member of the Virginia Society of CPA’s teaching faculty since 2013 and its Professional Ethics Committee since 2011. Her volunteer professional service is rounded out by volunteering with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners in various capacities, including their (global) advisory and editorial committees. Locally, she served as vice president and then president of the Metro-DC Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners 2010-2012, and was an active board member 2004 - 2014. She has also served as an adjunct accounting faculty member for the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).
Hyder is a firm believer in giving back, personally and professionally. She is active with two dog rescue groups in her spare time, and especially enjoys helping with canine introductions, post-adoption challenges from the new environment (usually light training) and generally educating the public about misunderstood breeds. She also spends time with sports-based youth groups and her house of worship, all of which are rewarding experiences.
