Cheryl Hyder is the principal at Hyder Consulting Group, a consultancy focused on providing business valuation, forensic accounting and related services in litigious and non-litigious settings. She has been conducting financial investigations and performing related assignments for most of her professional career, which spans over twenty-five years. She is a Certified Public Accountant, has earned advanced accreditation in business valuation (CVA, ABV) and fraud examination (CFE) and is certified in financial forensics (CFF). She also holds or has held leadership positions in several professional organizations.
She has testified as an expert in the Commonwealth of Virginia and District of Columbia, providing professional services in matters involving forensic accounting, business valuation, accounting standard of care and income taxation matters as well as estimates of economic damages. She has developed and assisted in the implementation of fraud prevention programs for a major Federal agency as well as for publicly- and privately-owned companies. She is a frequent speaker on topics related to forensic accounting, fraud examination, business valuation and professional ethics for CPAs and CFEs.
Ms. Hyder was voted one of the top business valuation and forensic professionals in Virginia by her peers in 2013. She received the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners' (ACFE) Hubbard award, also voted by her peers in 2011, as well as a special commendation from the ACFE for her overall efforts in fraud prevention and detection.
Ms. Hyder has held volunteer leadership roles in national, regional, and local professional organizations throughout much of her career. She currently (May 2018) is president of the Northern Chapter of VSCPA, has served on its board since 2015 and has chaired its Valuation and Forensics Committee since 2006. Ms. Hyder is a member of the Virginia Society of CPA’s teaching faculty and its Professional Ethics Committee. Past positions include serving as chair of the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts™ (NACVA®) Litigation Forensics Board during the 2013/2014 term and as a member of the board for three years prior, past president of the Metro-DC Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and board member since 2004. She has also served as an adjunct accounting faculty member for the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).
