Arlington (VA) Non-profit seeks CPA pro-bono consultation
Arlingtonians For Our Sustainable Future (ASF), https://www.asf-virginia.org, is a nonprofit group in Arlington, Virginia. Our objective is to educate Arlington residents about rapid growth and urbanization in our county and to encourage our county government to make sure it understands the likely long-term impacts of growth and then implements policies best suited to a sustainable community.
We would like to consult with a Virginia Society of CPAs professional to ensure our finances are in order and that we are meeting our tax obligations to the IRS and Virginia. We are considering engaging an independent contractor to help with our website. We want to be sure we are treating the individual as an independent contractor (as opposed to an employee) and are meeting any obligations we may have with respect to withholding taxes, documenting payments made to the individual, and filing any necessary forms (e.g., do we need to file a Form 1099-NEC?), etc.
We are organized as an LLC in Virginia, and we have been assigned an Employer Identification Number by the IRS. We are not a 501(c) organization. We have received a letter from the IRS advising that we are not required to file a 1065.
Our only income is from donations from supporters. We do not sell any products or services. Our checking account has a balance of about $6,000 and does not earn any interest.
