Description:

Through conferences, print and digital communications, and other vehicles, the VSCPA Content Committee provides Virginia CPAs with professional and technical guidance, updates on state and national issues affecting CPAs, and other information of educational and/or professional value. 

 

Sub-Committees:  

Each member is also a part of one of the following sub-committees, which develop conference content as necessary. 

 

  • Fraud & Valuation Services 

  • Corporate Finance 

  • Taxation 

  • Accounting & Auditing 

  • Technology & Innovation 

 

What Volunteers Gain:   

 

Volunteers will gain the experience of offering their insights to develop content in a variety of platforms for the entire VSCPA membership. They’ll also benefit from the opportunity to meet and network with other members and, if they like, expand their skills by writing and/or presenting. Additionally, members will receive free conference registration if they confirm two speakers for sessions and help with on-site duties such as registrations, speaker introductions, etc. 

 

Volunteers Needed:No cap currently (unless we have too many volunteers) 

 

Term Limits & Renewal: Three-year terms with multiple terms considered for those who provide exceptional service. 

 

Time Commitment:   

 

  • Three virtual meetings per year. Kick-off is two hours; the rest are one hour. 

  • Virtual meetings as necessary for those planning conferences. 

  • Attendance at the in-person Leaders' Summit in May 2025. 

  • Additional time for completing special assignments such as writing articles. 

 

Required Experience:   

Professionals at any level of their careers with interest in discussing and contributing content ideas. 

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Attendance at a virtual meeting in January to suggest and determine content for the following fiscal year. 

  • Content and article ideas should be suggested during the meeting, but open communication of ideas with the staff liaisons throughout the year is encouraged. 

  • Members may be called upon to review articles as needed. 

  • Members should be open and willing to contribute advice and assistance to staff liaisons providing requests are reasonable and in advance. 

  • Attendance at up to two more content meetings during the year. 

  • Attendance at one or more sub-committee meetings to develop conference content as needed. 

  • Members must stay engaged with the sub-committee through emails, Connect posts, and phone/video calls. 

  • Assists in identifying important topics and professional trends to cover at the conference. 

  • Identify subject matter experts and provide introductions when available.  

  • Provide confirmed speakers by marketing deadline.  

  • Suggest sponsors and provide introductions when possible. 

  • Assist onsite at the conference by introducing speakers, running mics during sessions, and answering attendees’ questions.  

  • Attend social networking events as available.
