Description: 

The Scholarship Committee works closely with the VSCPA Educational Foundation to award scholarships to accounting students in Virginia. The committee reviews and ranks scholarship applications based on eligibility criteria, ensuring that the Foundation's mission of supporting future CPAs is fulfilled. Last year, the committee helped distribute over $80,000 in scholarships to deserving students.

  • Enhance personal and professional development: Serving on the committee can help members develop important skills such as critical thinking, decision-making, and teamwork. 

Volunteers needed: 3-4 

Term limits & renewal: One year term that is renewable. 

Time commitment: 

  • The review and selection process occurs between mid-April (after the 15th) and the last week of May. Expect one to two hour long virtual meetings during this time.  

  • The review cycle typically runs from mid- April to mid-May. Expect to review, on average, 10 applications. This can take up to 10 hours over the review cycle, depending on the total number of applications received and committee members. Once the review dates are determined, there is no flexibility in the dates, or extensions given.  

Required experience:

Responsibilities:  

  • Participate in mid-April training prior to reviewing assignments (training will be recorded).  

  • Use Foundation’s web-based scholarship management system to evaluate applications in a fair and consistent manner using the scoring rubric.  

  • Complete the Conflict of Interest & Confidentiality form annually.
