OVERVIEW
The Planning Council serves as a regional resource by helping communities throughout Hampton Roads, and beyond, implement effective strategies for those issues that cut across jurisdictional boundaries. We administer a variety of local, state, and federal programs bringing the highest quality of care to individuals experiencing homelessness, to military families with a special needs child, and supporting in-home and daycare centers in reimbursements for serving nutritious food to children in their care. Additionally, we advocate for initiatives that benefit the region. In total, we operate about $13million and employ 40 employees in VA and MD.
RECRUITING
We are currently looking to build out our finance committee on the Board of Directors. We’re looking for CPAs, CFOs, or simply finance savvy individuals who would volunteer to serve on our Board of Directors to offer proven financial practices and assist us in managing through the most efficient systems and analysis for transparency and educating the full board as to our financial status.
COMMITMENT
The finance committee meets monthly, for 30-45 minutes and the full board meets quarterly, about 90 minutes. There is talk in the air of increasing that cadence to 10 x’s/year. Terms and term limits are currently one year and no limits and there are discussions swirling that would allow 2- or 3-year terms with a 2 or 3 term limit. That may change as early as 1st quarter 2023.
HEADQUARTERS
Our finance committee meetings are via Zoom and the Board of Directors meetings are in person at the office in Norfolk, near ORF airport off Robinhood.
