Seeking motivated volunteers with non-profit financial experience who desire to make a global health impact 

Qualifications to serve as Treasurer for the HVO Board 

Our ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of, and experience with, nonprofit financial management and reporting practicesA CPA or equivalent designation is desired.  The Treasurer will have the ability to translate and communicate financial information to board members and participate in our strategic planning.  Prior experience with nonprofit boards, external auditors, and in-house finance staff is beneficialThose who share a vision of locally provided health care for all with a focus on scarce environments are encouraged to apply.  

Who we are: 

Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO) is dedicated to improving the availability and quality of health care in resource-scarce countries through the training, mentorship, and education of local health professionals. For the past 38 years, HVO has relied on establishing equitable partnerships with hospitals, universities, medical institutes, and Ministries of Health to realize its mission. HVO’s programs utilize highly skilled health professionals as short- and long-term volunteers providing both in-person and virtual training, as well as provide scholarships for on-site clinicians to attend international continuing education opportunities. HVO volunteers provide training on average to over 3,100 health professionals each year across 18+ specialties and 23+ countries. HVO’s Board of Directors 

HVO’s Board of Directors provides essential guidance and oversight for the organization. Current time commitments include two in-person meetings, spring and fall, in Washington DC and one or two other virtual meetings. Role of Treasurer 

The Treasurer joins the Board as a member of the executive committee. As a team, the Board oversees financially viability and strategic planning as well as oversight of all financial decisions.  Working in conjunction with the Executive Director and the Director of Finance, a close working relationship allows the direct reward of participating in the global impact of our ongoing work.
