The Virginia Department of Education is looking for several representatives from Business and Industry who are willing to review the current curriculum for Keyboarding for middle and secondary schools and the Keyboarding Applications course and make suggestions about how to make the curriculum current and prepare the students for more advanced information technology courses and eventually the workplace. The process will all be completed virtually, starting with a short teleconference on October 10. The files and instructions will be sent electronically and then the participants will review the curricula and make any suggestions they wish in order to improve the course—deleting tasks, adding tasks, updating the terminology, and making the course more relevant to today’s workplace. You may decide that a lot of the tasks that are listed are relevant and good—and that is fine—we will keep those and add others as needed.
If you or someone in your office is interested in helping with this important process, please let me know no later than August 18 so that the roster can be finalized and invitation letter sent out.
Following your recommendations, a team of teachers will be brought in to write and clarify the tasks you suggest, identify resources, and prepare a framework that teachers across the Commonwealth will use to teach these important fundamental courses.
